COMAP Early Science. VII. Prospects for CO Intensity Mapping at Reionization

چکیده

We introduce COMAP-EoR, the next generation of Carbon Monoxide Mapping Array Project aimed at extending CO intensity mapping to Epoch Reionization. COMAP-EoR supplements existing 30 GHz COMAP Pathfinder with two additional instruments and a new 16 receiver. This combination frequencies will be able simultaneously map CO(1--0) CO(2--1) reionization redshifts ($z\sim5-8$) in addition providing significant boost $z\sim3$ sensitivity Pathfinder. examine set models EoR signal, find power spectra spanning several orders magnitude, highlighting our extreme ignorance about this period cosmic history value measurement. carry out most detailed forecast date an cross-correlation, that five six we consider yield signal noise ratios (S/N) $\gtrsim20$ for brightest reaching S/N above 400. show that, these models, can make measurement molecular gas from $z\sim2-8$, as well probe population faint, star-forming galaxies predicted by undetectable traditional surveys. single model does not predict numerous faint emitters, COMAP-EoR-type is required rule their existence. briefly explore prospects third-generation Expanded Reionization (COMAP-ERA) capable detecting faintest characterizing signals detail.

Intensity mapping of molecular gas during cosmic reionization

I present a simple calculation of the expected mean CO brightness temperature from the large scale distribution of galaxies during cosmic reionization. The calculation is based on the cosmic star formation rate density required to reionize, and keep ionized, the intergalactic medium, and uses standard relationships between star formation rate, IR luminosity, and CO luminosity derived for star f...

Early Reionization by Miniquasars

Motivated by the recent detection by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe of a large optical depth to Thomson scattering – implying a very early reionization epoch – we assess a scenario where the universe was reionized by ‘miniquasars’ powered by intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs), the remnants of the first generation of massive stars. Pregalactic IMBHs form within minihalos above the c...

Early Reionization in Cosmology

Since this is the first contribution to this meeting which is mainly involved in cosmology, I would like to put it into its cosmological perspective: In the standard model of cosmology we assume that the universe is homogeneous and isotropic on large enough scales. This assumption, originally probably made just by reasons of simplicity, leads to a so called Friedmann Lemâıtre universe which exp...

Intensity Mapping of Lyman-alpha Emission during the Epoch of Reionization

We calculate the absolute intensity and anisotropies of the Lyman-α radiation field present during the epoch of reionization. We consider emission from both galaxies and the intergalactic medium (IGM) and take into account the main contributions to the production of Lyman-α photons: recombinations, collisions, continuum emission from galaxies and scattering of Lyman-n photons in the IGM. We fin...

Probing Reionization with Intensity Mapping of Molecular and Fine Structure Lines

We propose observations of the molecular gas distribution during the era of reionization. At z ∼ 6 to 8, 12CO(J = 1 − 0) line intensity results in a mean brightness temperature of about 0.5 μK with rms fluctuations of 0.1 μK at 1 to 10 Mpc spatial scales, corresponding to 30 arcminute angular scales. This intensity fluctuations can be mapped with an interferometer, similar to existing and plann...
